Growing up in Vancouver, Canada surrounded by forest, mountains and ocean, Susan Remnant developed an awareness for the forms, textures and patterns in nature. She has experimented in a variety of disciplines including print making, metalwork, textiles and ceramic sculpture exploring themes of form, volume and containment. These themes have remained integral components of her jewellery work. She uses combinations of metals, patinas and enamel with a palette of unusual textures, vibrant colours and playful patterns as well as the shapes and forms that give each piece its unique character. The result is a range of sculptural jewellery made up of bold forms and rich surfaces with a whimsical flair.

“The world of nature informs my work with its poetry of irregular designs and sensuous repetition. As things grow they respond to the environment in ways that reveal clues to history and a connection to the past evoking a character specific to each individual. The jewellery and other objects that I make reflect this individuality and represent the varied and sometimes unexpected beauty found in nature. My work is constantly evolving as I exlore new directions or variations on a theme: it is a process of observation, experimentation and creativity.”
